Jason
Van Duyn educated as an engineer, is a woodworker by trade. His work
focuses primarily in turnings, both open bowls as well as hollow forms,
and period furniture, most of which are southern reproductions.
The
artist says, “My turnings are my artwork, although some pieces do have
an intended function. I prefer to work from one solid piece of wood,
turning natural edge bowls, vessels, and hollow forms as well as some
finished edge pieces. Every piece of wood has a unique natural
character. I like to work with local species, mostly to show that the
seemingly ordinary things around us can look quite dramatic.”
Van Duyn is from Edenton, NC now living in Raleigh, NC and a graduate of
North Carolina State University with a degree in Materials Science and
Engineering.
